I was so looking forward to this book based on all the hype. Sadly, book was a major drag for me. The premise was interesting- being able to jump into one of any parallel lives you lead to deal with your regrets and try to find the perfect life. Unfortunately the entire thing read like the author was telling me what to think and feel and pointing me towards the “realization” that it’s all about LOVE! And your impact on the world!! Ick.

The writing style wasn’t my favorite either, very telling and not showing. I feel like a story like this could really benefit from a first person perspective rather than third person narration. Nora also drops philosophical references constantly, and it just feels like either she or the author (or both) are flexing on us mere mortals who cannot quote Thoreau.

My biggest gripe with this one was the way Nora’s mental health was handled. It was very obviously a plot device, and it felt like the most stereotypical depression possible. It was boring, tired, and repetitive, and though necessary for the plot it could have been done way better.

Overall, I would only recommend this book if you’re looking for a book to give you in-your-face self help. Not for me.
