Good survey of the issues around “intelligence“ and why it’s a terrible metric for life. At times the examples are a little surface level. And as with a lot of these books the impression I ultimately leave with is that we don’t really understand intelligence how how we think in any robust way.

Talking about emotional, analytical, social intelligences makes me just think that the word intelligence is more of a descriptor than an actual noun. Some sort of weird combination of experience, competency, luck, and the sort of raw horsepower that most people talk about. But at that point we’re talking about something different. And as with this book and many others, I think the overall message is that we prioritize narrative descriptors such as intelligence over actual accurate interpretations of real life.
