fr one of my favourite things about this series is how the author is totally unafraid to let his heroes fail, cry, grieve, and be beaten and humbled. Of course they pull off a grand trick in the end but the journey there is difficult and painful, and their intermediary plans often fail. Locke gets physically knocked around here a lot less than book 1 but it's still good
