I loved the first two books in this trilogy. The entire set has a lot going for it. The writing is excellent, and the characters are well fleshed out. I kept thinking to myself as I read the series how refreshing it is, in a YA novel of all things, to see a best friendship that is as intimate as Aria and Roar's without it ever becoming something more than that. The evolution of Soren was also a point I admired very much. And maybe the whole "boy and girl from different worlds hate each other then fall in love" model is unoriginal, but the setting sure was. This is why I wasn't super happy with the end of this book. True, everyone made it. We always knew that would happen. We all knew, eventually, the bad guy would fall. But the plot crescendoed and fell flat for me. There were a lot of unanswered questions. And I don't love that. It was disappointing to read, but overall still entertaining and I'm glad I own this series.
