This was a hard one for me to rate. I love how so many complex social issues were woven into the text without it feeling too forced. On the other hand, I didn't find many of the characters endearing which made it hard to empathize with them. Sometimes it felt like major life events were happening but I just couldn't feel the emotional depth. It was more like I was just observing and maybe that was the authors intention. I wish there had been a little more time for some of the more minor characters as those were the ones that I particularily loved and was left wanting more of. Overall a good read, that kept me interested throughout, but a bit anticlimactic .
Graphic: Racism and Hate crime
Moderate: Sexual assault
Minor: Physical abuse, Domestic abuse, Dementia, Misogyny, and Death of parent
