Hold Me Today
by Maria Luis
I’m going to start by saying my biggest annoyance of this book might not actually matter to anyone else. But here’s what bothered me:
It is made into a HUGE deal at the beginning how Mina and Nick can’t possibly work because they want different things in life - namely Nick wants kids and to be married and Mina doesn’t.
Look I GET changing your mind on relationships if you find the right person. BUT it’s MUCH more difficult to just “all of a sudden want kids.” Did that happen to Mina though? WHO THE HELL KNOWS BECAUSE THEY DONT TELL US. Legit the book ends and you still don’t know where they stand on kids, which is one of the ONLY things in my opinion that people need to agree on going into a marriage.
I THINK the author was trying to IMPLY she’ll want kids because the reason (I don’t know if this was her reason, it wasn’t very clear if it was THE reason) she didn’t want them is because she was worried she might pass her dyslexia on to them and Nick Reassured her for half a second about it. But nothing was clear and that conversation wasn’t even from when they were actually dating.
I know this is a long rant about one thing but to make something seem like such a big deal and then never wrap it up caused me to lose focus throughout the book as I waited for it.
I did love Nick. And I love childhood friends to lovers. The storyline was cute. The sex scenes were good. The writing was good. I won’t give up on this author. I plan to read Body Check next. This is just a personal annoyance for me so if it won’t bother you, definitely don’t let it deter you from reading!
