The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

Sorry, but this was boring and a little disappointing. I loved the prose and it exactly gave these gothic vibes but there were moments when even this was fumbled. You get used to this somewhat periodical speech pattern of the characters and then there’s a jump scare in the form of [love interest] who just finds out that after long years of feeling nothing he awakened and the first thing described was his hardened c*ck. I do occasionally enjoy spice, but to be honest such sudden things just took me out of the story and plunged me into reality. I think that a more old-fashioned speech would match this periodical vibe better, especially for a few centuries-old being. But I guess it could be just me
