Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas

3.0

I was excited for a supernatural horror book, but ended up disappointed because of the large focus on romance. The title is deceiving because there really is not that many vampires in the book and the horror scenes just are not scary at all because there's no stakes, no suspense.

I think the writing was good and the storytelling was done very well, but the entire plot just didn't really do it for me. It felt underdeveloped and took way too long to start (only started 50% of the way through), so the plot felt like it was solved extremely quickly. The whole vampire angle was supposed to be a big thing in the book but the huge focus on romance dulled the plot and the vampires were so boring.

I did like the anticipation/suspense in the beginning with the romance, but that kind of burned out and their actual interactions once they finally met again were underwhelming.
