Oh I wish I had enjoyed this more.
Pageboy is clearly an important book. There is so little written about the trans experience, particularly the trans-masc experience. Elliot was incredibly brave to share his story in our current climate.
But the writing...isn't great. The stream of consciousness style just didn't work for me, I felt lost quite a lot of the time as to where I was in the timeline of events, which feels an important miss.
I also found some of the disclosures a little worrying. I don't mean that in any sense that LGBT+ people shouldn't talk about their sex lives, it was more I was left wondering who the disclosures were for, and whether Elliot will layer regret giving the word such personal information. I also hope the people involved in the stories were consulted with regards to the information shared, otherwise the disclosures are all the more concerning.
