B.B. Hamel makes the character introductions interesting and gets the reader sucked in from the very first page.

"Full lips that wouldn't stop, a body she clearly worked on, and perfect blonde hair."

Darcy has just moved to Philadelphia and is still trying to feel like she belongs.

He was tall, easily over six feet, and I could sense something dangerous about him."

Rex is surviving.

"I'm bad news for you"
"I want you anyway"

Rex and Darcy have a connection but Rex has a past and present that could keep them apart.

"Everything about her made my body feel like it was on fire, and I had never met a girl that made me so insane before."

Rex is determined to fight for his chance to be with Darcy.

"I was going to beat the living piss out of this stranger. I was going to beat him until he couldn't stand straight, beat him with every ounce of energy I had in my body."

Darcy accept who Rex is and understands him.

"Maybe my parents fucked me up a little bit, but whose parents didn't?"

Together they find happiness and their strength.

"I helped him hobble toward the stairs, up into the bar, and out the front door into the city I felt like we owned, our personal paradise of concrete and people and noise."

A fun quick read about a guy who does what he can to survive the only way he knows how and a girl who is trying to figure out why she is bored with her easy life.
