A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
adventurous
dark
tense
slow-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? Yes
- Loveable characters? It's complicated
- Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
Take a shot every time V. E. Schwab writes that someone "raised a brow"
Things I liked:
Things I liked:
- Rhy
- Kell and his coat
- Lila finally having some character development
Ned's return - he drove me crazy at first but was a precious little bean by the end - Holland
finally getting some peace
Things I didn't like:
Sex on a boat - The same similes and metaphors used over and over again
No consequences for Lila killing that one other competitor in the games, even though it's mentioned at least once in this book!
I think I got too used to the world building of the likes of Brandon Sanderson and Katherine Addison. The previous book and this one could have delved more deeply into the various cultures present for the games and following crisis, but I never got a good sense of cultural differences between Arnesians and the others.
Graphic: Death, Blood
Moderate: Sexual content, Grief, Death of parent
