A brilliant overview of the concept and science of heredity. It ranges both through time, to look at historical and cross-cultural perspectives of heredity, but also through space in ranging from the wide perspective of evolution and speciation and races, to the microscopic view of the DNA molecule and epigenetics.
Complete with colorful but informative stories of significant scientists, but also regular folk some of whom have not always been well treated by their scientific explorers. It ranges as far as to end with a discussion of CRISPR and the profound ethical and civilization changing potential of current understanding and technologies. But also leaving us with a deep sense of how deep the mystery remains, how we are in some ways just dipping our toe in the ocean of understanding how our reality arrises from the irreducible dance of our parents' molecules we spring from, and the endless layers of nutrition, micro-biome, society, language and culture we grow up and through.
