Chosen Ones
by Veronica Roth
Audible really hyped this with Dakota Fanning as the primary narrator. Big mistake. Just because someone is a film/tv actor that doesn't make them a good voice actor. Her pacing is terrible, she doesn't really distinguish between voices and her general emotional tone for the book doesn't fit. There's even one scene when Sloane is crying and Fanning narrates her almost monotone.
There are a whole slew of other, seasoned narrators rounding out the cast of this book and Audible would have been smart to cast one of them. Any one of them. Seriously, any of them would have been better than Dakota Fanning.
I think the story has merit and I do like Veronica Roth (although I wasn't wild about the Divergent series). So I may pick this up in print - but until then, this one's a bust.
