This was more about coming to terms with mental illness and forming bonds you never thought were possible than it was a romance. I don't mind that at all of course, I thoroughly enjoyed the healthy displays of masculinity, the feminist MC and his journey to accepting himself and deciding on his future, and I loved the family dynamics.
However, if you come into it expecting the usual romance tropes and pacing, this isn't that.
I did not like how Jaysen in particular spoke to and acted with the MC in the beginning. Their hostility with each other seemed to be fueled entirely by jealousy and was far too heated considering the context, which was essentially Mickey being a legacy and him not really knowing him. Maybe it's because I'm in my 30s, but it just felt extremely juvenile for a college setting.
Overall, I had a great time and enjoyed this authors writing and especially the characters.
