دقات الشامو by عمرو عبد الحميد
2.0

I read this book only because it was the sequel to the book of the month in the book club I am in. Lets start with the positives, which are few to mention. It is good that there are Arab writers who write this kind of fantasy genre. The title of this book makes sense when start reading the book and doesn't ruin the surprise when you finally understand what the title means.
Now for the negatives. Starting with the layout of the book, the book cover does not reflect at all the content of the book. The paper quality is so poor yet the size of the book is way easier to hold than the first book . The editing is one of the worst I have ever seen and it really affected the flow of the reading and reflected the ignorance with the rules of the Arabic language. The writing style of the author at times were very boring. Again it would have been beneficial if he wanted to create a real fantasy world to have a map for the names of the imaginary cities he created and also stating the rules of Jartin in one entry for future reference and to be reader-friendly when the reader need to revise when it will be mentioned in the later books. There is only one round developed character, the rest are flat characters. The movement back and forth in time is not done smoothly. But the idea that all the characters are connected was quite different despite the fact the he kept moving back and forward in time is ambiguous ways and sometimes can be puzzling.
I have a lot of issues with the content and rules the author set and forgot about. For instance if Nadim's soul was one of the chamo tigers' souls, how come his mother didn't die when she was giving birth to him, as we are told that he told Ghofran that his mum insisted that he learns. So how come she didn't die and how come when he inherited his soul from his predecessor he didn't remember the past as with Adam and how did his predecessor was executed complacantly.
