The Engineer's Wife by Tracey Enerson Wood
3.0
challenging emotional informative inspiring reflective tense slow-paced

I picked up The Engineer's Wife firstly because I am interested in the story behind the building of Brooklyn Bridge. Secondly, the cover pushed me to buy the book.
Lately, I am more interested in historical fiction set in different eras (not only WWII novels).
The Engineer's Wife takes place during the American Civil War and Post-Civil War. Yes, the story is based on real people.
The book is written, but the style is a little stiff. The author never really made me care about the characters. Then it wasn't enjoyable to learn that the love triangle comprised many stories and was pure fiction.
This book shows the toll such a project will exact on a family, especially a marriage. Tracey Enerson Wood exhibits the sweetness of their marriage and the bitter times -- the sickness and the health. I appreciate the many ways that the relationship of marriage is positively portrayed and shown to be of value.
I wanted to like the book, but sometimes I had to put it down. I managed to finish when I found the audiobook through Hoopla.
