All In: An Autobiography by Billie Jean King

emotional hopeful informative inspiring reflective sad slow-paced

4.25

I knew a bit about who BJK was, and I barely knew anything about tennis, and this was an incredible autobiography, but also incredibly in-depth. Her sexuality barely comes up until Chapter 28 of 32 (which was the part I was most eager for), but it was a heart wrenching tale of being so far in the closet and then clawing yourself out of it. Highly recommend the audiobook to hear King read it herself (and occasionally get choked up).

I cannot believe how much social change happened (and may be reversed) in one woman’s lifetime. I think it was also really powerful how King made sure to name every single person who supported her along the way or won a title over her or whatever else. She ensured these people won’t be lost to history, and that’s leadership.
