This was an enjoyable read. This book is about a once normal girl who is hunted by demons and finds out that she is a Vessel and has a hot guardian to protect her. I really enjoyed the concept of the story. It kind of gave me early 2010 vibes (which is a good thing) as it reminded me of City of Bones, The Hunger Games, etc. The author's writing is very well done and I loved how her writing style is flowy. Cross knows how to capture a reader's attention with her spectacular writing as I was never bored while reading this book. I enjoyed the new world which has amazing world building. I'm excited to see how the author goes more in depth in the other book. Also this book takes place in Louisiana which is the state I live in! YAY! The pacing is very well done with a well structured story line. The writing style of the book was very well done and I had no problems with it.

This book is written in Genevieve's pov. She is a college student who recently found out that she is a vessel and is being hunted by demons. Honestly I kind of found her annoying in the book. Her character development was very rushed and I wish it was more slow so you can properly see the development. It was like at one point she didn't know how to fight but the next after one training session she did. The side characters were amazing though. I really fell in love with Jude's character as one he is extremely hot but you can tell that he has something going on. There were many other side characters I enjoyed in the book. The romance is kind of like a grumpy/sunshine and guardian/protectee trope. The romance was honestly cute and a little steamy which I rate 2/5level of steaminess on the chart.

The ending was okay with the ending where you have more questions then answers. I still want to read the next book just because I fell in love with Jude so much that I need more of him. I hope he doesn't pull a Tamlin on us. This book was very action pack and was kind of like City of Bones. I really enjoyed the fact that this book took place in New Orleans as I live so close there. I can't want to read the second novel and I recommend this book to fans of Cassandra Clare and Becca Fitzpatrick.
