I’m not going to lie and say this was easy for me to read.  Honestly I struggled with it and I had to sit with it for a long while because this is different from a typical Saxon book for me.  She does an amazing job of conveying feelings and emotions, which is still true for this book.  However, the feelings weren’t light, they weren’t bubbly.  All the emotions of the book were warped by the haze of Xander’s anxiety.  It almost felt as if he wasn’t allowed or entitled to feel how he did in a lot of different ways, plus he was not a nice person for a while and although I understand why, I still hurt for those who love him.

For me, I don’t know if the relationship between Derek & Xander truly ever had a chance to flourish. The struggle for mental health was as raw as it was captivating, but I truly wish I was given more time with them in a healthy relationship.  Part of it is knowing I won’t get to see them happy in future books since this is the last in the series, so I think I needed more time with them in a positive place and not only within the struggle.

Saxon wrote an amazing book, and put my emotions through the wringer right along with the characters, but I wanted them to have more time being in a healthy relationship.  I want to see them living their best life, healthy, happy and surrounded by so much love and family they don’t know what to do with themselves.
