Wifedom: Mrs Orwell's Invisible Life by Anna Funder

4.5

It is really disappointing to learn that Orwell was straight up a jerk to his first wife, especially since she played such a major role in Spain supporting the antifascists when they were present during the Spanish Civil War; when she helped him escape the same war, and when she helped him put together Animal Farm. I liked learning all about their lives - though I wish I had paid enough attention to realize ahead of time how many liberties the author took with imagining what Elaine felt and did. This is best filed under "Speculative biography".
