I had so many emotions while reading this book. The main character, Nellie, is growing up during WWII and trying to balance family, work and love. It’s intriguing to read about her life and how close everyone seems to be because of the unfortunate circumstances. I didn’t really like how Nellie refers to her parents by their first names. But after reading further it didn’t bother me as much. I thought the story went along well and it could’ve been an educational book read in middle school. There wasn’t a whole lot of character development but it was still a good read for the events that took place. Millie says she wrote it based on her family history so that was a fun fact.
