Cryptid Zoo by Gerry Griffiths

You ever feel a very sudden and explicable urge to learn about cryptids so you read the first book you can find?

Cryptic Zoo is a blatant Jurassic Park rip-off, down to having a presentation about DNA that accompanies the unveiling of a billionaire’s irresponsible dream project. You can guess what that project is. In fact, you can figure out the entire plot from what little I’ve told you. I actually don’t like Jurassic Park at all but I thought this book absolutely rocked.

Sure half the characters are alcoholics, everyone really likes guns, and there’s a lot of, uh, sensuality in the air. Sure a poor family got fodderized for no reason. Sure the writing’s really simple and it’s a very short read that baits you into reading its sequels. Who cares? This was perfect for a quick fix. Something light and mildly researched to keep my curiosity piqued. Sometimes a guy just wants to read about Yetis, and this book absolutely serves the purpose.
