Murder on a School Night by Kate Weston

Thanks NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC! What a cute gem of a YA-mystery read! To start off with, I really enjoyed all the pop culture reference in the book. The references felt so timely and made the book quirky in a good way. I also thought there was very strong character development - I wanted to be Annie and Kerry's friend and felt like I could fit in.

A strong theme without the book was feminism, which a lot of books (esp YA) don't deal properly with. It was so refreshing that this book actually addressed things like menustration.

Personally what I did not like about the book was the dramatics like that Kerry was made to be so so upset about the breakup with Scott when it had only been a hot minute. Yes, teenage love is different but it felt like overkill. Another example of what I found a little too dramatic was when Annie and Kerry reunited one night after a fight. All in all, I enjoyed the read but was a little let down!
