perfect day for banana fish: 

open ended and witty and i absolutely love the dialogue and salinger fr has a magic with words

uncle wiggily in conneticut:

“i was a nice girl wasn’t i” AND THEN I SOBBED.

just before the war with eskimos:

???? i do not see the biblical allusions that wikipedia says it has

the laughing man:

quietly and unconsciously devestating….how does jd salinger pack so much in like 30 pages??? i wonder if my brother misses any of my exes

down at the dinghy:

SO GENTLE and sweet. you can just tell that jd salinger has this kindness in his heart from catcher in the rye to down at the dinghy with children

for esmé with love and squalor:

“Fathers and teachers, I ponder ‘what is hell?’ I maintain that it is the suffering of being unable to love.”

ngl i didn’t really care abt this one….it did induce a lovely nap tho!

don’t think he tricked ANYONE with his “pals with picasso” shtick. anyways….. he decided to give sister irma her freedom to follow her own destiny: everyone is a nun. everyone has their devotions and all you can do is let them flow free
