Girls Save the World in This One by Ash Parsons
4.0
4/5 Stars
As someone who is a huge fan of The Walking Dead since the first episode aired and is an all-round zombie lover, I really connected to this book in a personal level. I always wondered what would happened if a zombie apocalypse happened and how my group and I would react because we seen all movies/shows that involve zombies.(minus iZombie)
What I liked:
Diversity!! I loved how each character was unique with different backgrounds and body shapes. I liked how the main character,June Blue, was a true regular girl who was not good and math and had anxiety which she over came... IN THE MIDDLE OF A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!! I also enjoyed see where her mind should go in serious situations and makes joke because that is something I do all the time.
I also loved all the other characters in the book and even though the book was fasted paced and we didn’t the truly get to know the characters in a personal level, there was still that connection with the reader that made me what to cheer them on.
I loved how this book acknowledges the power of women in a REALISTIC way and not in a “I have super powers” way.
Lastly, like I said before, I love The Walking Dead and because of that this book became better because of all the mini connections that only makes sense if you are also a huge fan of the show.
What I did not like:
The only issue I had with the book, which might be a personal problem, was that it was difficult to understand the layout of the environment throughout the book. Like, I got the main outline but the details were not there for me. As well as some actions the characters would do, most of the time I was like “ I have no clue what’s going on here... but I’ll act like I do” (lol to my Naruto reference)
So that made it hard to truly get into the book.
Afterthought: I had to force myself to read the first 100 pages in order to get to the part I wanted to read.
Overall, if you want a funny, zombie apocalyptic, and fast read I highly suggest to read this book because you will certainly laugh and get the same trill as watching a movie/show!
