As someone who has read several translations of the comedy, Longfellow’s is one of the best. It’s particularly “poetic”; that is to say it is quite verbose at times and at other times a slow read, reads much more like Milton than any other translation that I know, except perhaps the Carlyle-Wicksteed. I definitely recommend this book, when I return to the comedy this is the translation I treasure.
