At first, the plot was predictable. But then I realized it kinda had to be predictable, to set up the very unpredictable things to come. I am invested in the outcome of the characters, and I liked a lot of aspects about this new world (magic system isn’t surprising but nice; parchment larks are now my new favorite)
However, it’s my belief that the author is trying a bit too hard. I understand including new words, but not everything needs a new word in a new world (idk why we can’t just say “room” instead of “slumber suite”).
I read this on Kindle, and the title cards for the diary entries, character name for the chapter, and any images (like a letter or something) were very difficult if not impossible to read.
This was really enjoyable, and I’m excited for the next book.
