Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
dark
slow-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? It's complicated
3.5
I really loved the first book and was excited to read the sequel, but this was rather a let-down. Pros: I enjoyed seeing the deeper look into the sex trafficking and Addie being victimized. I think this was all well done, as was her rescue and recovery. Cons: the purple prose was purpling. There was no end to the terrible metaphors, the attempts to be deep that actually just undermined the author's point every time. It got to the point that I could barely read it. I'd be in a reading groove and then get hit with another terrible attempt to be deep that killed it. If an editor went through and culled about 75% of the crappy metaphors, this book would actually be really good.
