Dune, to me, was my first real foray into the world of science fiction at the age of 20 (2020). Three years prior I had read The Forever War, and while I greatly enjoyed it and is a cornerstone of the genre, it didn't spark the hunger for sci fi like Dune did. Herbert's mastery of political intrigue and the nuance of religion and philosophy bound me to this book. I cannot thank him enough for this masterpiece and the way it jump-started my love for intellectual sci fi.
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Pedophilia, Sexual violence
This book, apart from obvious depictions of war and religious zealotry, involves a pivotal character with pedophilic and homosexual tendencies.
