i really wanted to love this book, but i...didn't.
i felt that all of the points of conflict were relatively weak and their resolutions were unsatisfying. everything came easily to jamie, and all of the characters' dialogue was too perfect. the only conflict that seemed to stay stubbornly present in the narrative wasjamie and max's fight , which was the most frustrating and unnecessary point of contention that could have been chosen.
there were plot and world-building points happening in the last third of the book that i thought would have been more effective to have at least been mentioned in the first half, so parts of the story felt rushed.
i did appreciate that jamie's royal family accepted him with open arms, and also that he grew up in rhode island? that caught me off-guard but as someone who also grew up in new england, i thought it was funny.
