"Belief isn't simply a thing for fair times and bright days, I think. What is belief—what is faith—if you don't continue in it after failure?"
The Final Empire was the perfect introduction to Brandon Sanderson. Despite having little to no pre-conceived notions, I managed to have whatever single gram of expectation within me turned on my head by the ending of the book. Characters that I was seemingly unimpressed by at the beginning grew up on me just as real people do, to the point where I worried for their safety like they were living, breathing comrades of my own. Sanderson wove together a story with a heartbeat, held up and supported by an intricate world filled with even more intricate magic. With Sanderson, there is no need to choose between writing with strong plot and writing with strong characters. He manages to conquer them both—and for that reason, I cannot wait to read more of what he has to offer.
