The Return by Nicholas Sparks

1.0

This is his worst book…it was so bad.

Okay, I wrote down my thoughts with this one as I read it:
I know Nicholas Sparks is from New Bern or whatever but Jesus does he have a book NOT in New Bern? Or NC? Lol.

Also, the description of the store at the beginning is almost carbon copy of the one from Safe Haven minus being right next to the water.
And so far he sounds like a carbon copy of Logan from The Lucky One and () from Safe Haven mixed together. Though I do appreciate that unlike Logan he acknowledged his PTSD more and mental health, particularly of veterans, is an issue that is being spotlighted.
This info dump at the beginning is not the way to do it Nick, come on. I find it so corny when the character starts off like “well im here, partly because of this and this, which I’ll tell you about soon enough.” The storytelling narrative like that is only good for fairytales, and even then is iffy.
Annnnnd here are the daddy issues. And the tragic death of a parent (in this case both)
Ugh, he sucks. He’s full of himself, doesn’t remember the names of girls he’s dated in the past (serious or not) and automatically assumes Natalie has a boyfriend already.
Ope there it is, cue him being in love with her after 4 conversations, 3 of which were barely anything. I’m sure she’ll realize she’s in love with him later the same night or when she inevitably goes to Easley with him.
“I could see in her radiant smile that she was feeling the same way as me”
Jesus.
Oh of COURSE she knew she was into him the minute she saw him. And just couldn’t stay away. Gack.
He’s going to meet up with “Natalie” and it’s going to be her boyfriend that’s gonna try to rough him up.
oh. guess not.
Annnnnd I’m surprised by none of this.

And then I stopped taking the notes because for the love of God this was just….
