And I loved it. The last few I've read and reviewed haven't wowed me - in fact quite the opposite. This is what I was looking for when I asked for a nice, heartwarming women's fiction novel.

Admittedly, this book already had me won over somewhat before I opened it. A novel focusing on female friendship? A secret club? Yesssss. Sign me up. I've always wanted to be in a secret girl's club. The drama, the intrigue, the shocking secrets and resulting intimacy...Y'all, I'd be soooo good at that.

Now, is it the most well written novel I've ever read? No. But there's something kind of magical about it. Yes, MJ, our main character, is a bit whiny. But you know what? I thought it was pretty reasonable myself. She was struggling, lonely, and passing time rather than living. She knew all that, but didn't know how to get out without sounding ungrateful for what she had - namely Dan, who she felt she owed for his kindness and ever-patient nature. Then came the DBC, and the realization that maybe it's okay to want something for yourself, and that while something or someone can be great, that doesn't mean they can't be wrong for you. It's your life, your choice, and you should do whatever makes YOU happy. Everything else will fall into place.

Now, would a book about the original four have been more compelling? I saw that argument in several of the reviews. Good point, ladies and gents. It might have. I will say, if it comes out, I'd read it. I would LOVE to read it actually. But that doesn't mean I couldn't appreciate this book for what it was. Fun, heartwarming, and pretty darn hilarious. I'm passing it on to my own book club and while I'm at it, I might just pick up a few of the books mentioned in it too.
