It took me at least half of the book to really get into this story. I found the first book much more entertaining and engaging.
That being said, I did find myself unable to put it down in the end. I'm glad more information is starting to unfold, that the whole book wasn't just one long tease to get you to buy the next one.
I found some of the writing highly annoying, such as the repetition of characters "tasting metal", "finding the coppery taste of blood", "mouths flooding with metallic taste". Seriously, this happened so often I thought maybe we could invent a drinking game out of it. I was rolling my eyes by the end, and wishing her a better editor for next time so she doesn't repeat herself over and over and over again.
Hopefully Simon won't nearly die 4 times in the next book.
My speculative spoiler is that Jace and Clary are not really brother and sister.
