I wanted to love this!! Had never heard of the Oulipo before, and what a fascinating literary tradition (or anti-tradition?) to explore, but overall the allure of the writing constraint is nowhere near powerful enough to mask the racism and sexism still running rampant through this story. In fact, I found the few brief pages of translator's note much more interesting than the full-length novel itself.. definitely on my list of books to discuss if I ever find myself back in a formal literature course.
