Jade Fire Gold by June CL Tan

Did not finish book. Stopped at 31%.
Unfortunately, I just didn't get on with this novel. The premise sounded promising and named elements I like in a fantasy, however, it just was not it.
The world was really cool, but what drove me over the edge were the two protagonists. Ahn is just naive and I'm wondering if she can make any dumber decisions; and Altan is your typical revenge-filled and yet very near-sighted boy. I could not connect to neither of them, and normally I don't mind an unlikeable character, but these two fell too flat and uninteresting for me. The side-characters were much more interesting, but also not enough to keep me going after 140 pages. And I gave this book time, put it down for some weeks to think it over, tried again and just couldn't. Very sad about this outcome as I was excited and had high hopes. Especially as it is one of the few YA fantasy standalones there are. Maybe, YA (fantasy) just isn't my cup of tea anymore... I don't know. Let's see what the future holds.
