I found this book super boring, it had a slower pace and expansive character development and world building. It got better within the last like 10 chapters but I do not believe I’ll be reading the next two books.

The story takes place primarily in the countries of Threll and Ara and is recounted in the first person by two narrators: 21-year-old Tisaanah and an ex-soldier named Max, who is in his late twenties. Tisaanah starts the story enslaved but quickly freed herself, on the run she makes her way to Ara. Where she is accepted into the order and left to train with bitter ex-soldier Max. Tisaanah has 5 months to train before she tested by the order. The day for her test comes and she passes, however, the order throws in additional steps to her test to see if she is capable of being the host for a magical entity the order has used as a war weapon. Tisaanah and Max must navigate their violent and politically unstable world to help free Tisaanah’s enslaved friends.
