This isn’t a book for readers who like fast paced novels full of action. It’s a slow burner, quite dense and intricate. As a result it is very satisfying. It’s also quite enlightening on early capitalism. It only began to drag slightly towards the end in the Venice section but then the last revelation confirmed it as a five star read for me.
