Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

emotional sad medium-paced

3.5

A compelling and heart breaking memoir about identity, life, family and grief. Michelle Zauner recounts growing up as an Asian-American, her turbulent relationship with her mother, in which they bonded mostly over traditional Korean food, and the grief that would follow from losing her to cancer. I felt I could really relate to the ways she describes grief and the process of losing a parent after a not so stable relationship with them. I felt so much sympathy for Michelle constantly trying to fight for her mother’s approval, even when her mother was dying. It is truly raw and honest.
