This was a fantastic story and debut from Winnie Dunn. She writes about the authors in a way that feels harsh but she writes them with so much love that you can’t help but want to love the characters as well. I resonated with Meadow’s coming of age as a mixed Pasifika person and to see her grapple with being the oldest daughter and navigating through life and her cultural birthright was heartbreaking but beautiful. She is sent to Tonga (like many of us are when we need to “find ourselves”) and has grown in her identity to recognize that you will always be part of the culture regardless of if you are “full”, “half” or “part”. Overall, a fantastic read.
