Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles

WOW. This book was an emotional rollercoaster.
First and foremost, Marvin is fantastic. He's haunted by his twin brothers death, haunted by his future, haunted by the idea of moving on. Watching him grow as a character from start to finish was beautiful and sad at the same time. I can't even imagine the pain and suffering that he felt during this time, and it broke my heart.

I loved how detailed this book was, the descriptions really putting me in the moment with these characters. This was such a well-written book and I'm SO excited to see what Jay Coles writes next.

The ending is so painfully sad, but it's wrapped up perfectly and in a way it feels like a new chapter is beginning in their lives, and there's a flutter of excitement in that aspect. Just reading about these characters, you know they'll go on to make history, you know? Am I making sense? IDK I HAVE BEEN EMOTIONALLY DEVASTATED SINCE LIKE CHAPTER FIVE LEAVE ME ALONE

I knocked it .5 stars only because of the romantic relationship between Marvin and another character (I shall not name to be spoiler-free). It felt extremely forced at first and I feel like the girl (again, to be nameless) as a character was never really explored or fleshed out. I would have liked to hear more from her, maybe more instances where the two of them were together. It just seemed like a very insta-love kind of situation, and I don't know how I feel about it.

Overall, this book was so emotional, so beautiful, so POWERFUL, so g-d INSPIRING that I implore you all to read it. This is one for the ages.

(also, the cover is freaking beautiful. I feel like I need a full sized poster of it hanging up in my room)
