The Varlet and the Voyeur by Penny Reid, L.H. Cosway
3.0

This is a sweet story that had a lot of WTF moments. I appreciate that the storyline is unique and it doesn't shame sexual behaviors that are deemed "unusual." I loved how Will's teammates and support system rally around him to help him through a tough time. And I absolutely loved Josey as a character. She says what she's thinking and went into an arrangement with Will with a totally open mind.

Overall the book is funny and sexy - great sexual tension! - but it's all over the place in terms of the plot line and character development. One gal in my book club phrased it perfectly in saying the book gave her whiplash because it was changing directions often and sharply.

As much as I liked Will, the man needs some therapy and that is never addressed. I'm not talking about in terms of his sexual preferences. I'm talking about how he doesn't see himself as worthy of a romantic relationship, and how he's terrified of hurting a potential partner.

This book wasn't nearly as strong as the previous two in the series (but the first one is still the worst by far) and there are several inconsistencies between this plot line and the others. This Josey felt like an entirely different character from how she appeared in the previous book. There are also a few spots where it felt like the authors were pushing their own agenda (specifically in regard to porn) that didn't match what the character would likely be thinking.

My feelings on this series are mixed. There are definitely hits and misses.
