In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom
by Yeonmi Park, Maryanne Vollers
This book is SO incredible. From North Korean poverty to being human trafficked in China to becoming a South Korean citizen, Yeonmi's story is definitely a relevant, necessary read for anyone looking for a personal account of life in North Korea and the struggles escape it and adapt to the modern world.
At times difficult to read because of the hardships she's faced, along with her mother, the story brings light to several ongoing humanitarian crises, while presenting it in away that is easy to understand. I also had to remind myself that this is not fiction, that the things that she went through happened in the same world that I live in, and it has moved me deeply.
I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a story of strength, love and hope.
