Liu Yao: The Revitalization of Fuyao Sect by priest

Loved the fantasy/xianxia aspect and the found family trope - especially seeing the Fuyao sect kids growing up over the like 100 year timespan of the novel (I think the xianxia setting is fun bc you get these wild decades long timeskips). I got so incredibly attached to literally all of them without even noticing, and it was so sweet seeing their character developments and interactions with each other (especially at the end where they're all acting like overbearing parents/siblings when Han Tan sets off on her own adventure). Like others have noted I also liked the questioning of the purpose and of cultivation itself / the end goal of ascension (vs humanity...).
That said... I did not really like the romance. I found it uncomfortable how Yan Zhengming started to have feelings for Cheng Qian when they were actually pretty young and had a substantial age gap (20 vs 15 ish, just... why???) - nothing happened at that point but he'd definitely already fallen for him hence the obsession for so long after Cheng Qian had ostensibly died. Also was sort of skeptical about Cheng Qian's feelings, he's not a very emotional character to begin with but I got the impression he was more moved by the fact that anyone cared about him that much rather than by Yan Zhengming himself. Then at the end he's so overly clingy and possessive - I didn't like their relationship. Though it is pretty funny how they're both like over 100 years old and yet their relationship is... like that. I absolutely love the relationships between all the characters + for plot reasons it's important they do have such strong relationships with each other, but making it a romantic relationship (especially before the reunion) felt out of place or poorly done. (Though, there's a lot of fanart that's cute so it's kinda grown on me a lot)
