Happily: A Personal History-With Fairy Tales by Sabrina Orah Mark

4.0

Sabrina uses timeless and ubiquitous fairy tales to connect readers to her life as a Jewish women, a mother, a stepmother, a wife and a daughter.
Each chapter focuses on one aspect of fairy tales and she connects those fairy tales to Jewish religious lore and current events. The chapters seem to get more frantic and disconnected toward the end almost as if events around the COVID-19 pandemic are creating an echo chamber around her stream-of-consciousness.
The connections she makes with fairy tales to her life are unique and thought-provoking, but the style of writing was hard to get used to.
Overall, 4/5 stars for presenting new ideas to discuss and think about, as well as providing an entertaining look at Sabrina’s life and thoughts.
