A Farewell to Arms
by Ernest Hemingway
Just like Hemingway’s writing style, this novel is short, blunt, and bleak. It’s hard to picture a (good) war novel (although war plays a strikingly small role in this story) as anything other than tragic and harrowing on the soul, and this did not disappoint in that aspect.
