The Good House
by Ann Leary
I just read the author interview where Hildy was never meant to be the main character - just the narrator telling the story of Rebecca and Peter. Knowing that I can see why it felt a bit Rebeccaish in the beginning - Hildy talked about Rebecca as Ms. Danvers talked about her Rebecca. This book does make one question their alcohol intake and if they might have an issue. While a major focus is on Hildy, her drinking, and refusing to admit she has a problem - it is also a book about a community. For awhile I didn't know where the book was going, but it all works out in the end.
