This book taught me quite a bit about the Cultural Revolution in China even though I found the story to be a little predictable. I never knew just how crazy people were with Mao worship. The author did a good job of recreating her youth in the book, but I kept turning the pages hoping the characters would exhibit more interesting qualities or unveil a hidden part of their personality. Unfortunately most of the characters were just a bit too predictable. Still, an enjoyable and quick read.
