The Tower: A Novel by Flora Carr
4.0

This book was both melancholy and hopeful in such a poignant way. It really did read like a thriller at some of its most memorable moments; though the tension of knowing the real Mary’s story did slacken that suspense a tad through no fault of the author. Dread, colors both muted and vibrant, gendered power, royalty, birth, death and life: these are the themes that Carr did so well excavating from Mary and her ladies history. An excellent read.
