Greywaren by Maggie Stiefvater
5.0
This is a story about growing up, grief, coming to terms with the damage you have done, and the person you want to be (and the end of the world). It's a TRIP that wavers between fantasy and magical realism, and after spending two books growing to understand characters, this installment instills empathy and redemption for them in the face of apocalyptic odds. This entire series is driven by the development of the characters OVER the plot (the plot is the weakest thread of this book, imo) but it's redeemed by the magic system, complex and unique characters, their nuanced interrelationships and development, and Steifvater's writing, which is poetry throughout.
I cried.
Start with The Raven Boys (it's YA, you'll survive though) and the rest of The Raven Cycle if you've never come across it.
Listen to the audiobooks. They're narrated by the coach from Remember the Titans and are an impeccable addition to this saga. Just a perfect match for voice and story.
